In patients with chronic prostatitis in whom urethral narrowing (stenosis) is suspected the only useful radiographic test is micturitional retrograde urethrocystography. After instilling radio-opaque contrast medium into the bladder the test images the shape and calibre of the entire urethra during physiological micturition. This test is essential to confirm urethral stenosis.
